Eingaben (linke Spalte)

Antenne
Antennentyp mit kurzer Beschreibung: Dipol/Inverted-V/Windom, Langdraht/EFHW, Groundplane, Yagi, Moxon, Delta-Loop, Quad oder freie Geometrie aus beliebigen Drähten.
Frequenz

User guide

How to plan an antenna with Antennenrechner – from the first input to the finished build plan as a PDF.

Quick start

  1. On the left under Antenna, choose the antenna type, e.g. dipole, Yagi or delta loop.
  2. Under Frequency, press a band key or enter the centre frequency.
  3. Press Starting values – suitable dimensions for the frequency are suggested.
  4. Press Calculate. Then fine-tune the length with Trim to resonance; for Yagi, Moxon and quad also use Optimise.
  5. Check the result in the 3D view and the readings – terms with a dotted underline explain themselves when you hover over them.
  6. Download the finished build plan with Build plan PDF and keep your inputs for later with Save.

Inputs (left column)

Antenna
Antenna type with a short description: dipole/inverted V/Windom, long wire/EFHW, ground plane, Yagi, Moxon, delta loop, quad or free geometry made of any wires.
Frequency
Centre frequency plus start, end and number of points for the SWR curve. The band keys set the centre and band edges; the indicator light shows the current band.
Environment and material
Ground strongly affects take-off angle and impedance – “Average” is a good start, “Free space” shows the antenna without ground effect. Conductor material sets the losses. Insulation only affects the cut lengths in the build plan (insulated wire is cut slightly shorter). System impedance is normally 50 Ω.
Dimensions
The dimensions of the selected antenna. Yagi and free geometry use a table with one row per element or wire.
  • Starting values recalculates the dimensions from the frequency – press it after every frequency change.
  • Trim to resonance adjusts length or circumference until the antenna is resonant (for the Yagi, matched to the hairpin).
  • Optimise (Yagi, Moxon, quad) improves gain and front-to-back ratio. It runs in free space and takes up to about 30 seconds.
Matching
“Automatic” picks the matching with the best SWR (direct, balun/unun, λ/4 line or hairpin). You can also fix one option. The band keys below evaluate additional bands – useful for multiband antennas such as EFHW, long wire or Windom.
Project
A note that appears in the PDF below the title.
Calculate
Runs the simulation. After changes, a notice above the results reminds you to recalculate.

Display and readings

3D view
Shows the antenna and its radiation pattern. Drag with the left mouse button to rotate, with the right to pan, use the wheel to zoom. The keys 3D, Front, Side and Top select fixed views. Pattern shows or hides the radiation pattern, Mesh shows its grid, Current colours the wires by current, Scale changes the pattern size. The colour scale runs from −30 dB (blue) to the maximum (red). The arrow marks 0° = main beam direction (+x).
Feed point impedance
Resistance and reactance in Ω. Resonance means reactance close to 0.
SWR
Standing wave ratio with the matching named below it. Green is good (up to 1.5), yellow usable, red too high.
Gain
Maximum gain in dBi (relative to an isotropic radiator) and dBd (relative to a dipole).
Take-off angle
Elevation of the strongest radiation. Low angles suit DX, steep angles short range (NVIS).
Front-to-back ratio
Difference between front and back – important for beams.
Beamwidth
Width of the main lobe at −3 dB, horizontal and vertical.
Polarisation, efficiency, SWR below 2
Dominant polarisation, share of radiated power and the frequency range where the SWR stays below 2.

Tabs below the readings

Patterns
Azimuth (from above) and elevation (from the side) plots in dB relative to the maximum.
SWR and impedance
SWR across the set frequency range (dashed without matching) plus resistance and reactance.
Build plan
Dimensions, cut lengths, materials and building notes – a preview of the PDF content.
Matching
All matching options with SWR, plus winding data or the length of hairpin or λ/4 line.
